The fourth issue of Volume 2 of the International Journal of Neurology (1961) was dedicated to coma. It included editorials in Spanish and English, followed by comprehensive studies examining the clinical, metabolic, and pathophysiological mechanisms underlying comatose states. Articles addressed cerebral energetics, electroencephalographic findings, and the reactivity of EEG patterns during coma. Specific contributions discussed insulin-induced coma, traumatic and vascular coma, as well as coma resulting from expansive intracranial processes and hepatic cirrhosis. The issue also reviewed therapeutic approaches for prolonged coma and concluded with a section on personality.
